Do you know what Memorial Day is? The history of it?? I know, I know, I've already discussed my love of history. I can't help myself people! It's a thing!
From the ashes of the Civil War comes a day of remembrance. A day to stop, take a moment and be quiet. It didn't really become the Memorial Day we know it as until 1971. Think of the people we lost to war in that space from 1865 to 1971. It's staggering. Think about the last 20 years, it's even more staggering.
If you are lucky enough top have a vet in your life you know what I mean. If that person is a survivor of something scary, then you also know what I mean with sprinkles on top. I have a lot of family members who are military vets, including my husband, so I get it. There's a special place in my heart for Memorial Day. Sure sure, there's always a barbecue and a parade. Seems silly for something so heavy, but I think we all know how I feel about serious events becoming celebrations. ;-)
The least I can do is wear a parachute cord bracelet with a military sticker on it, or just colored in red, white and blue. Seems like it's silly, but you'd be surprised the response you get from people when you wear them. It's the same feeling of pride you get at those Memorial Day parades. Lots of Marching Bands, Scouts, kids, Soldiers....ahhh. What a great way to celebrate the fallen: a celebration of their lives and sacrifices.
If you can't find me in the crowd, just look for the bracelet.
